Being able to grow up to 20m in height, surprisingly, its size is not the reason for its peculiar name. In actual fact, Monstera translates to ‘abnormal’ and ‘monster’ in latin, referring to the natural holes found in its leaves. Though tall in nature, it can only grow up to 2-3 metres as an indoor plant.
Native to the Americas, the glossy, fibrous heart-shaped leaves of Monstera plant are one of its most identifiable traits. As its growth flourishes under high humidity and indoor temperatures of 20 – 30 degrees celsius, it is great as an ornamental plant in office buildings and households to liven up the surroundings.
Here are some pointers on how to care for the Monstera!
- Water weekly (Add enough water to keep soil moist!)
- Indirect sunlight
- Keep soil well drained
