Care tips – Ludisia Discolor/jewel orchid
Wait until the top inch is dry before watering it. Keep it light moist but not flooded.
Medium light levels. Avoid direct sun and gloomy places with low light.
Likes humidity so you can mist them daily. But also survives in normal room humidity. If soil is kept lightly moist, misting is not required.
Fertilise monthly (optional).
Ludisia discolor is known for their spectacular dark velvety leaves lined with pinstripes.Unlike other orchids, they’re prized for their foliage rather than their flowers.

The crystalline veins on the leaves sparkle when they catch the light.
When ready to flower, large flowering spikes shoot up on top of the plant stems and small white flower buds start to grow.
Potting mix 60% Perlite 20% Compost 20%
Repot when your ludisia becomes top heavy and wobbly. Use a shallow and wide pot as they tend to spread out rather than grow tall.
Not toxic unlike most orchids.
Place stem cuttings in potting soil and wait a few months for the roots to anchor it to the soil.
